Are you on nutrition information overload?

Eat this, not that.

Take this supplement, not that one.

Stay away from ALL of this ________________ (insert every food you enjoy), but do eat ALL of this ________________ (insert every food you can’t tolerate. . .even a little bit).

How in the world are you supposed to manage your post-treatment nutrition when you can’t even decide what to have for dinner tonight?

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH

Clearly, digging through endless websites, blog posts and outdated breast cancer nutrition books should give you some idea of what to eat.

Except that once you start researching, you end up down the proverbial rabbit hole

Which results in this:

  • You put in place LOTS of diet restrictions
  • You get FRUSTRATED and do NOTHING because there’s too much information
  • You can’t determine which nutrition information is ACCURATE and which is BU*LSH*T
  • You end up CRANKY (and freaked out) as heck, making you a very unpleasant human to be around

WHAT TO DO?

  1. Stop trying to read ALL the stuff; it’s enough to make your head explode. Click here for a really good place to start.
  2. Stick with the basics; there’s no need to complicate things. Loading up on lots of fruits and veggies is a good foundation to build on (boring, but TRUE. . .and it’s doable!)
  3. Include whole grains in your diet as a base for salads, one-dish meals, and side dishes (no, carbs are NOT the enemy).
  4. Identify your “non-negotiable” eating and drinking behaviors and work them into your real life. For example, enjoying a glass of wine every Saturday evening.
  5. Choose 10 entree recipes you (and the people you feed) love; keep the ingredients on hand and rotate through those tried and true favorites for simple meals you enjoy eating!
